Limited Certificate of Competency for Commercial Yacht Masters and list of Authorised Training Centre

This section provides information and the application form for obtaining a Limited Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Master of a commercial yacht below 500 GT. The qualification is intended for candidates seeking to command yachts engaged in commercial activities within the operational limits established for this certificate.

Applications are divided into the following yacht categories:

  • commercial yachts below 24 metres in load-line length and below 200 GT;
  • commercial yachts of 24 metres or more in load-line length and below 500 GT.

Applicants should complete Form 7, select the appropriate yacht category and provide all required information and supporting documentation. Before submitting the application, candidates are advised to verify that they meet the applicable training, sea-service, medical-fitness and examination requirements.

Authorised Maritime Training Centres

The training centres listed below have been formally authorised by the San Marino Maritime Authority to deliver approved maritime education and professional training programmes.

For clarity, authorised institutions are divided into two categories according to the type of training they are approved to provide:

  • Maritime Education and Training Centres (MET): institutions authorised to deliver training leading to San Marino Certificates of Competency for Officers in Charge of a Navigational Watch and Masters serving on commercial yachts below 500 GT on near-coastal voyages.
  • STCW Training Centres: institutions authorised to provide professional maritime training and approved courses in accordance with the applicable STCW standards.

Only training delivered within the scope of each centre’s official authorisation is recognised.
Candidates are therefore advised to verify the centre’s approved programmes and any applicable course or certification requirements before enrolling.

Authorised Maritime Education and Training Centres

  • ITS Academy Fondazione G. Caboto – Gaeta, Italy
    It is the first Maritime Education and Training Centre (MET) authorised by the Republic of San Marino to provide professional training leading to the issuance of Certificates of Competency (CoCs). [1, 2]
    Established through a strategic agreement with the San Marino Ship Register, the institution provides approved training for Masters and Officers serving on commercial yachts below 500 GT. Its authorisation was granted following an audit confirming compliance with the applicable STCW standards.

Authorised STCW Training Centres

  • At present, no STCW Training Centres have been authorised by the San Marino Maritime Authority. However, candidates may obtain Certificates of Competency issued by maritime administrations of countries included in the IMO STCW White List.
